Artist Statement
For this project, I decided to take photos of essential and nonessential workers who are risking their lives going to work during the COVID-19 pandemic. The reason why I decided to make a 6 picture story photographing candid and non candid moments of associates and essential workers was because we usually don’t appreciate their hard work, especially before COVID-19. This documentary series helped me appreciate all public workers and health care providers because I was able to see what they do to help provide our essentials as well as help us with our needs.
Before this pandemic, I used to believe that we all work hard and do our jobs because that is a part of life, however after covid, I realized that essential workers who do not have the opportunity to work from home, are the ones who are risking their health, and lives to provide us with goods and services that we could not live without.
The images chosen shows the theme of my project as well as tell a story about essential workers. I chose to edit the images to Black and White with an increased contrast, to make the images look dramatic and visually telling a story.
